"Come on, you winefizzling ginsizzling booseguzzling existences!" (U14.1580)
"Come on, you dog-gone, bullnecked, beetlebrowed, hogjowled, peanutbrained, weaseleyed fourflushers, false alarms and excess baggage!" (U14.1581)

This passage, as discovered by Harald Beck, is taken verbatim from a sermon given by the American evangelist William Ashley "Billy" Sunday, on May 14th 1916, at the U of Kansas. Sunday (1862 - 1935) was a popular professional baseball player during the 1880s and then the most celebrated and influential American evangelist in the early 20c. Born into poverty near Ames Iowa, Sunday spent some years in an orphanage then took odd jobs while developing his athletic skills. His exceptional speed led him to play major league baseball for eight years with the Chicago White Stockings. Converted to evangelical Christianity in the 1880s, Sunday left baseball for the ministry. He gradually gained tremendous fame with his colloquial sermons and frenetic delivery.
"Come on, you triple extract of infamy!" (U14.1583)

Though Billy Sunday was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in 1903, his ministry was nondenominational. He affirmed the inerrancy of the Bible, the doctrine of substitutionary atonement, a literal devil and hell, the virgin birth of Christ, His imminent return, and His bodily resurrection. He often grated his audiences by speaking against liberalism and the evolution theory, as well as against gamble, dancing, and other popular amusements. Sunday helped arouse public interest in Prohibition, and the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1919. His campaigns in America's big cities were heavily covered by the press. He made a huge amount of money, and was welcome in prominent homes (Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, Herbert Hoover, John D. Rockefeller, Jr). His popularity waned after WW1 with the competition of radio and movies, and he was often disgraced by the 'unchristian' behavior of his 3 sons.
"Alexander J Christ Dowie, that's my name that's yanked to glory most half this planet from 'Frisco Beach to Vladivostok." (U14.1584)
"The Deity aint no nickel dime bumshow. I put it to you that He's on the square and a corking fine business proposition. He's the grandest thing yet and don't you forget it. Shout salvation in King Jesus." (U14.1585)
"You'll need to rise precious early, you sinner there, if you want to diddle the Almighty God. Pflaaaap! Not half." (U14.1588)
"He's got a coughmixture with a punch in it for you, my friend, in his backpocket. Just you try it on." (U14.1590)
