Breastplates, on the other hand, are part of the uniform of the Swiss Guards, a corps of papal bodyguards. Swiss Guards have to be Swiss, 19-30 year old, over 174cm (5'8) tall, unmarried, and Roman Catholic of irreproachable character. They complete rigorous entrance requirements and Swiss army training. The papal Swiss Guard tradition was instituted in the 1500s, making it the oldest, continually active military corps in history.
